We make our community better through leadership, partnership and service. That is our goal.
Altrusa is a worldwide non-profit organization. Altrusa of Ruidoso, NM, chartered in 1970, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization comprised of members whose goal is to improve the quality of life in our community.
In Altrusa, we work to support literacy and to better our community through service projects and volunteerism. Some of our projects include Annual Low-Cost Mammograms, Scholarships for Returning Students, and Books for Headstart Children.
- Community Service:
Is the reason for the existence and continued efforts of our organization.
Altrusa gives members the opportunity to serve others in our community who are
less fortunate than ourselves. Last year, Altrusans proudly
gave over a million volunteer hours around the world,
including clubs in the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, England, Bermuda,
Ireland, India, Scotland, New Zealand and Russia.
While illiteracy affects every aspect of society, its invisible nature makes it
difficult to measure the severity of its impact. Worldwide literacy is Altrusa's
- International: Several decades ago, Altrusa decided to institute literacy as an area of international focus; since then, service areas have expanded to include HIV/AIDS and disaster relief. During our last biennium, Altrusans assisted in relief efforts for the Port-au-Prince, Haiti and Christchurch, New Zealand earthquakes, as well as the Tsunami in Japan. Most importantly, Altrusans give their time and resources in areas that are deemed most important in their local communities.
The Altrusa story is evolving every day through club accomplishments. When you visit any Altrusa club, you will see leadership and service in action.
